St. Pius X Church is situated at the corner of Halprin Drive and E. Little Creek Rd. in Norfolk, Virginia, in what is primarily a residential community of single-family homes. Its close proximity to Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek - Fort Story and Naval Station Norfolk provides the opportunity to serve our military families who are always welcome to visit or register with us.
Thank you for your interest in our parish. Whether you’re just visiting us for a brief time, looking for a new parish home, are returning to the practice of your Catholic faith, or are interested in finding out more about the Catholic Church, we’re happy to have you here.
A parish is a community of believers and a spiritual family that is supportive and loving. It can be a place to grow spiritually, to put your faith in action, and to use our gifts of time and talent as disciples of Christ. We look forward to answering any questions you may have.

After WWII, Norfolk enjoyed rapid growth, both economically and in population. As a result of that growth, St. Pius X parish was established on July 8, 1955, served by The Missionary Servants of the Most Holy Trinity. It was not until 1982 that priests of the Richmond Diocese began to serve here. Catholic Education was and remains to this day the primary ministry of the parish. St. Pius X School opened its first wing in September 1956 with an enrollment of 189, consisting of a kindergarten and two first grades. Currently, the school serves an enrollment of 200 in grades Pre-K through 8 in four wings and a gymnasium. Trinitarian sisters temporarily staffed the school until a commitment could be obtained from a religious order of teaching nuns. In 1958, the Sister Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary from Immaculate, Pennsylvania, accepted full teaching responsibilities. While the availability of IHM sisters is limited today, we continue to be blessed with their presence in administrative staff positions.
St. Pius X Parish is blessed with a large Filipino community. Strong in their faith and faithful to worship, they have increased our understanding and appreciation of their culture and cuisine. The Filipino community has added to the worship opportunities for many years with the Santo Nino Novena of Masses and in recent years through hosting the last mass in the diocesan-sponsored Simbang Gabi Novena of Masses. We also welcome the recent growth in our Hispanic community, both in the parish and school.
Today, Norfolk’s growth has leveled off. Family membership has held around 985 – 1000 over the past several years. Few of the founding members are still with us; however, we celebrate the young families and military families who have found their home at St. Pius X. We are pleased that, through our Youth Ministry, middle and high school students are moving closer to Christ and learning how to express their faith to their peers.
We at St. Pius X Catholic Church open our arms to visitors and registered parishioners alike. Please join us at Mass or a parish social event. Our modern poured concrete structure may not look like a typical church building but be assured that Christ is alive inside.
